FC Schalke 04 donates food to “Warm Durch die Nacht”

A healthy and tasty meal. For many, this is not a matter of course. In order to support those in need in the city, FC Schalke 04 is now donating uneaten food from the VELTINS Arena after each home game to “Gelsenkirchen an tackle – Warm durch die Nacht”. After the duel against VfB Stuttgart (February 25), more than 120 people were fed and made happy.

Tina Krone, one of the initiators of “Warm durch die Nacht”, loaded various salads, but also deer goulash, Maultaschen, rice and couscous vegetables with helping hands into her van on Monday afternoon (February 27th).

“The donation is an enormous appreciation for our work, but above all for the people who come to us. The Gelsenkircheners are all Schalke, there is a strong connection to the club. They feel that they are being thought of.”

However, the campaign also sends an important signal in terms of sustainability. Because: In Germany, several million tons of food are disposed of every year.

“Despite careful planning, it is unfortunately not always possible to avoid food being left behind. In this way, the food prepared by Schalker Catering can still be put to good use. They arrive where they are needed most and bring great joy to others.”

Guido Kabacher, Managing Director of Arena Management GmbH

FC Schalke 04 is aware of its responsibility for the people and the region. For this reason, the Knappen are also emphatically supporting German football’s commitment to more sustainability.

“We not only want to live up to our social, but also our ecological responsibility. With the project we create awareness for the appreciation of food. At the same time, we are pleased to be able to support the socially disadvantaged in Gelsenkirchen.”

Sebastian Buntkirchen, Director of Fans and Sustainability and Managing Director of Schalke hilft!

Buntkirchen emphasizes that “Warm durch die Nacht” is also a particularly important and valuable contact point in the city for personal discussions and exchanges about the S04.

FC Schalke 04 has been at the side of the club since the founding of “Gelsenkirchen an tackle – Warm durch die Nacht” eight years ago. Among other things, the Knappen, together with Ultras Gelsenkirchen and other Schalke fan groups, collected donations for a van, organized a Christmas dinner or helped with the distribution of food with players and coaches. Together with other volunteers, Tina Krone provides the needy with food and drinks several times a week. According to Tina Krone, demand has increased significantly in recent months due to the corona pandemic, rising energy prices and inflation. A time when the food donation from FC Schalke 04 is becoming all the more important.
