First Sustainability Strategy by Romanian Football Federation (FRF) is approved

On Thursday, August 18, the Executive Committee approved the first Sustainability Strategy by the Romanian Football Federation, which will serve as the foundation for future social and environmental responsibility initiatives.

The document, which was the first of its kind to be approved by a Romanian federation, outlines actions to be taken in the areas of social responsibility and environmental responsibility between the years 2022 and 2030 and is in line with the goals outlined in the UEFA strategy, Strength Through Unity.

The adoption of the Sustainability Strategy is the first step toward realizing the vision outlined in the Strategic Plan for the Development of Football in Romania 2021-2026, which states that by 2026, the FRF will be the most important institutional and social actor in sport in terms of sustainability.

The strategy is based on 11 policies that are in line with two major action pillars—human rights and environmental preservation—in five intervention areas. Each policy is detailed, with objectives and performance indicators to measure and know the impact of each action in real-time. One of the goals is to establish a community of sustainability managers and experts within the affiliated football clubs, allowing for coordinated action, the exchange of experiences, knowledge, and best practices.

The Romanian Football Federation recognizes the fact that sustainability can benefit football as well as inspire and mobilize society as a whole; however, mobilizing an evolving football phenomenon and making a meaningful impact in society requires a shared vision and a set of objectives, which have to and will be worked for.
