Florence Robot visits unexpected avenue – The ABN Amro Open tennis in Rotterdam

EFDN’s Florence Robot is making a significant impact on lives through an unexpected avenue – tennis!

Last Wednesday, on the 14th of February 2024, EFDN had the privilege of showcasing our Florence programme at the ABN Amro Open tennis tournament in Ahoy Rotterdam, providing children from the Sofia Children’s Hospital with a unique and memorable behind-the-scenes experience.

The day started in the players’ area adjacent to the training fields, where the esteemed Richard Krajicek, a two-time winner of the Rotterdam tournament and a Wimbledon champion, opened the event for the children. He welcomed the children through the camera and spoke with them. Several tournament participants took a moment to connect with the hospitalized children through the Florence robot, what lead to heartwarming conversations.

The robot then drove to the training fields, where the children had the opportunity to witness live tennis action and even engage in a brief game themselves. The robot then drove to various areas of the event, including sponsor zones and the players’ restaurant, complete with insights into their culinary preferences.

The day ended with a visit to the main center court. EFDN is proud that we were, in collaboration with Rotterdam Ahoy, ABN Amro Open Tennis and Sofia Children’s Hospital Rottedam, able to make a positive impact on these children.
