GOFITBA project gets primary school kids active

Go Fitba is a football-based health and wellbeing project for Primary School kids delivered by The Scottish FA, Aberdeen FC Community Trust and Aberdeen City Council. The project has been up and running for 6 weeks throughout summer.

The GoFitba project has married up fun filled football activity and life lessons on health & wellbeing this summer for 180 children in the North-East. The programme offers children a platform for fun, physical activity and takes them on a weekly interactive educational journey to discover how they can stay active and lead a healthier lifestyle through diet and nutrition.

GoFitba offers the young participants a chance to enjoy an 3 hours of fun football-based activity, followed by a healthier lifestyle workshop focusing on diet and nutrition. At the end of each session, the kids receive a packed lunch which gives them an opportunity to enjoy some social time together.

Overall, with the help of 19 coaches this summer GoFitba has been able to successfully deliver over 120 hours to a total of 180 participants and provide 659 meals. This Summer, Aberdeen City Council Education Operational Committee Convener Councillor Martin Greig visited Manor Park School for GoFitba.

“It’s fantastic the sessions have been so popular, and we hope the youngsters have had a great time. We also give thanks to organisations such as Aberdeen FC Community Trust to enable the sessions to be held – the Trust has given exceptional positive support with sporting activities, and they have been great partners for years”.
