Mainz’s “05er Klassenzimmer” supports regional food banks with charitable donation

1. FSV Mainz 05 is known as a leader among German clubs when it comes to social responsibility and commitment.

The club’s charity project – 05er Klassenzimmer – started in 2009 with six core concepts of Integration and Inclusion, Addiction and Violence Prevention, Health and Sport, Fit4Job, Fair Play with the Environment and Mainz 05 up close.

In partnership with 30 schools, 05er Klassenzimmer has long been involved in supporting socially disadvantaged people. The annual break sale, which has been implemented for 12 years now in cohorts with local shopping markets, had to be cancelled in the wake of the global pandemic. Instead, regional food banks were supported with the aid of charity.

With the help of a charitable donation of 10,500 euros from the foundation, seven food banks from Mainz, Wiesbaden, Bingen, Bad Kreuznach, Alzey, Kirn and Idar-Oberstein were chosen as equal beneficiaries.

Although the pandemic has put a hold on plans, this has not barred Mainz from making an impact on the social front.
