Mayor attended the Blackburn Rovers Community Trust’s Veterans programme

The Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council showed his support for the Blackburn Rovers Community Trust’s Veterans programme by paying a visit to one of their sessions earlier this month.

Blackburn Rovers Community Trust’s Veterans programme hosted a breakfast club on a Tuesday morning at Ewood Park for participants, alongside regular sessions at RBL Blackburn and a monthly trip to various locations in Lancashire.

At the latest Veterans meeting at Ewood, with Mayor Suleman Khonat J.P in attendance, the participants discussed how the breakfast club runs and how much they enjoy the weekly meet-up. They also participated in a fun quiz and had both food and drink. Earlier this year, the Veterans programme hosted its first-ever Bingo night, which was a huge success, with hundreds of pounds raised to help fund the project.

“It was a pleasure to welcome the Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen to our Rovers Veterans Breakfast Club. The mayor is one of the most iconic public figures locally and to have him attend and take time out of his schedule was heart-warming. The veterans welcomed him with open arms.”

Chris McGrai, Project lead at Blackburn Rovers Community Trust

Blackburn Rovers Community Trust set this breakfast club up to be accessed by any veteran in Blackburn with Darwen and surrounding areas. The purpose is to offer a warm and safe place where veterans of all ages can come along to take part in quizzes, fun games, trips or just good old-fashioned banter and conversations.
