Morton Sharing Best Practice in Europe through EFDN Staff Exchange

Greenock Morton joined likeminded clubs from across Europe at EFDN’s ‘Life Skills Through Football’ staff exchange. The exchange was held by Vitesse Arnhem at their stunning GelreDome stadium and National Sports Centre of the Netherlands in Papendal.

The aim was to enhance the quality and diversity of clubs individual programmes, with life skills as the theme.

In attendance on behalf of Greenock Morton were Laura Williamson, Morton Girls Project Worker, and Paddy McAlees, Participation Project Worker.

Paddy and Laura were joined by staff from Aberdeen FC, Links Park Community Trust (Montrose FC), Everton FC, Fulham FC, KAA Gent, Werder Bremen, Club Brugge and hosts Vitesse Arnhem.

Throughout the week Paddy and Laura had the opportunity to share best practice at Greenock Morton such as the physical literacy nursery programme which Werder Bremen took a keen interest in developing within their community.

Morton Girls Project Worker, Laura Williamson, reflected: “Paddy and I had such an enjoyable week, it’s hugely humbling to be impacting our community in the same manner as some of Europe’s largest football clubs. Paddy and I will be looking at how we can embed some of the dynamic practice we saw into Morton Community projects.”

Development Manager, Brian McLaughlin, commented: “Being part of EFDN allows us to showcase our life changing project to other European clubs. In return, seeing best practice gives us an opportunity to enhance our current provision and/or create further opportunities to compliment the demographics of Inverclyde.”
