Over thirty thousand euros raised for Sophia Children’s Hospital

During the Sophia match Feyenoord – Excelsior in early November, €32,581.54 was raised for the Centre for Rare Disorders at the Erasmus MC Sophia Children’s Hospital. The amount was announced at the hospital this afternoon by the players of Feyenoord 1 themselves.

It happened during the selection’s annual visit to the Rotterdam children’s hospital. In the main hall, trainer Arne Slot handed over a cheque on behalf of Feyenoord to Marjon Cnossen, paediatric haematologist at the Erasmus MC Sophia Children’s Hospital. She gratefully accepted the cheque.

Supporters thank you

‘As many as one million Dutch people will suffer from a rare disease in their lifetime. About 80% of them are children,’ explains Marjon Cnossen. ‘Many of these conditions are (still) unknown to doctors. That’s why we need more research. It is fantastic that so many supporters wanted to contribute to this important cause by donating in the collection box of the Friends of Sophia Foundation. Thank you very much.’

‘Say Feyenoord!’

After a festive start to the visit on a stage in the hall, most of the players went to different wards to greet the children who cannot leave their rooms. Of course, the players did not come empty-handed, taking with them hugs, pennants and other Feyenoord gifts. A few players stayed in the main hall to play games with the children and have their photos taken countless times.

Enjoy

In Intensive Care, Gernot Trauner, Quinten Timber, Jacob Rasmussen and Oussama Idrissi, among others, visited 15-year-old Timo. He has had severe kidney failure since the age of eight and was donated a new kidney by his own father yesterday. Feyenoord is their club, so when suddenly a few Feyenoorders stood around his bedside, his mother filled up, his father glowed with pride and Timo was able to enjoy the attention for a while. From none other than assistant coaches Marino Pusic and John de Wolf, he received a Feyenoord shirt, an autographed ball and get well wishes. A visit never to be forgotten.

Update Feyenoord corner

Since January 2021, there has been a special Feyenoord corner in the hospital. Part of the money will soon be used to update that corner, so that current players will also be seen there.
