Talents Of The Future On A Field Trip As Part Of The Community Champions Programme

In January, the students of PRO Emmen attended three field trips. As guests at Wildlands Adventure Zoo, Tuinbeurs Nederland (Garden Fair) and Parc Sandur, the youngsters were given a look behind the scenes with the aim that they can orientate themselves on the job market and experience in practice what work looks like.

About Talents Of The Future

Talents of the Future is a course offered at MBO (secondary schools). During the 16-week programme, personal development, meeting new people and doing something for someone else take centre stage. In addition, participants work on skills such as communication, innovation and entrepreneurship. Talents of the Future is part of the MDT project Community Champions.

Wildlands Adventure Zoo

During the first work field visit, PRO Emmen’s Talents of the Future visited the zoo in the centre of Emmen. This day consisted of two tours of the park. The first tour focused on animal care and started in the butterfly temple. Here, participants were shown how they breed the butterflies in the butterfly garden, in which greenhouses they live and what species there are. An elephant keeper from the zoo then told more about animal care in a presentation. The presentation was about how he got his current profession, what his working day looks like and what makes his work so special.

Tuinbeurs

Furthermore, the youngsters went to Tuinbeurs Nederland (Garden Fair). There, an employee of Tuinbeurs gave a presentation about the company. Her presentation revealed what kind of products Tuinbeurs supplies, how they work and what a working day looks like. More information was also given about possible internships and what an internship at the company is like. A number of students expressed an interest in such an internship.

Parc Sandur

The third field visit took place at Center Parcs in Parc Sandur. Here, the students were given a presentation about the catering industry in the holiday park. They were told what kind of restaurants are present and were literally allowed to take a look behind the scenes.
