UN welcomes EFDN as an Official Member of Football for the Goals

European Football for Development Network (EFDN) has been announced as a member of the United Nations’ initiative Football for the Goals (FFTG).

By joining FFTG, EFDN commits to advocating for the achievement of and implementing policies aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The United Nations look forward to collaborating with and supporting EFDN as it becomes a champion for sustainable development and human rights and drives positive change within the football community and beyond.

As an official member of “Football for the Goals”, EFDN now has access to defined resources, content and specialized expertise within the United Nations (UN), and the opportunity to collaborate, through this initiative, in convenings, discussions, and events alongside the FFTG membership of fellow football stakeholders.

Football for the Goals is a United Nations initiative that provides a platform for the global football community to engage with and advocate for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It is an opportunity to build on football’s powerful and influential reach and to work together to become agents of change by aligning messaging, strategies and operations with the aspirations of the SDGs.

This initiative will inspire and guide the world of football – from confederations, national associations, leagues and clubs, to players’ associations, organized fan groups, as well as media and commercial partners – to build on existing sustainability approaches and implement SDG strategies that lead to behavioural change.

Hubert Rovers, CEO of EFDN: “It’s a real honour to have been accepted as an official member of United Nation’s initiative of Football for the Goals. As EFDN we are committed to achieving and implementing policies aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). With more than 150 members in 32 different countries, we have an important role to develop sustainable development within European professional football and having a positive impact on lives through football. We are convinced that football is a powerful tool with the potential to tackle challenges entailed in each of the 17 SDG’s. Together with our members and partners, EFDN is aiming at working towards new milestones in ESG in football.”
