VFL Wolfsburg sustainability report

With the Sustainability Report 2022 published these days, VfL Wolfsburg is celebrating ten years of transparent and comprehensive sustainability reporting based on the guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). VfL Wolfsburg has held a leading position in professional football for a decade now when it comes to responsibility for people and the environment.

Every two years, the Green-Whites provide information on which concrete measures have been and are being taken in the area of sustainability. The sixth edition of this paper has now been published and covers the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 seasons.

“Sustainability is not only one of the major social challenges, but also a very central issue for us.”

VfL Managing Director Michael Meeske

Report under a new name

This year’s sustainability report takes a particularly close look at the two focus areas of regionality and climate protection and shows some innovative solutions and comprehensive measures in the areas that are important for VfL Wolfsburg. For example, on CO2 transparency in the online shop , on filter solutions for microplastics on artificial turf pitches or in the field of biodiversity, which were developed with start-ups, scientists and other partners.

Appropriately, the report is published for the first time under the new motto “We for tomorrow”. In the summer of 2021, the Green and Whites said goodbye to the umbrella term “Move Together” in order to give the social and ecological activities a new coat of paint. Since then, all CSR measures and projects have been carried out under the new name “We for tomorrow. one team Many Goals.” communicated. With this renaming, VfL underlines the personal commitment, the closeness to the people around them and the common striving for a better togetherness and a better future.

Commitment to the people in the region

“Sustainability is not only one of the major social challenges, but also a very central issue for us. It is a strategic driver for our entire organization, especially around environmental sustainability, but also with the aspect of diversity, which we naturally feel closely connected to. In addition, with our broad commitment to the people in the region and within the framework of our ‘we for you’ approach, we want to create not only emotional but also factual added value. We are therefore looking forward to the future and will continue to push the issue with all our might.”

VfL Managing Director Michael Meeske

As part of the “We for you” day 2022, head trainer Niko Kovac helped beautify the outdoor area of the old people’s and nursing home run by Arbeiterwohlfahrt in Wolfsburg. A total of around 180 employees in nine social institutions carried out a wide variety of tasks on this day.

Recognition from the DFL
