Werder starts the week with a matchday for inclusion

Werder Bremen organises a ”Match Day For Inclusion” home game against VFL Bochum.

When SV Werder welcomes VfL Bochum to the Osterdeich on Saturday, far more than eleven Werder players will take centre stage. Once again, the Green-Whites are focusing on people with disabilities and their participation in social life at the “Match Day for Inclusion”. In addition to numerous activities surrounding the home match on Saturday, 25 February 2023, the club will take a look at its wide-ranging commitment to inclusion in the week before and after the match.

Niclas Füllkrug, Marvin Ducksch and Co. will once again wear the shirts with the message “INCLUSION” during the warm-up, thus setting an eye-catching example for participation. All staff members – from the security staff to the stall staff to the hospitality staff – will be wearing buttons with the nine different letters during the match day. As in previous years, stadium announcer Arnd “Arnie” Zeigler will be supported by co-presenter Tim König, and once again a number of points have been incorporated into the stadium programme.

For many years, the Green-Whites have used a Bundesliga home game to look at existing programmes with a wide reach, but also to start new projects. In recent years, for example, volunteers with handicaps have been firmly integrated into the operations. People with disabilities help out permanently in the VIP staff team and have been able to find employment with partners such as stadium caterer Levy Restaurants. The fact that the players introduce themselves in sign language when they line up at the Weser stadium this season is also a result of this commitment, as is the “#WERDERFM the inclusive live radio – presented by Ammerländer”. Not only do visually impaired fans benefit from the barrier-free coverage of Werder home games, but all other fans are also given the opportunity to participate in the game with a direct stadium atmosphere.

Match Days For Inclusion – Also For Table Tennis and Handball

Table tennis star Mattias Falck also underlined the clear message for inclusion with the shirt.
Last year’s motto “Inclusion starts with you” will be continued in 2023. Since the beginning of the week, a huge banner above the entrance to the underground car park has been setting the mood for the action day. Recently, the campaign was extended to the club’s other sports. The table tennis men already drew attention to their inclusive training group at the home match against Saarbrücken on 10 February, and their participants were guests of honour at the home match of world champion Mattias Falck and Co.

The handball department will follow with an extensive programme on Saturday. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Klaus-Dieter-Fischer-Halle will host the 3rd match day of the newly founded Inclusion League. At the important home match of the second division ladies in the evening against TSV Nord-Harrislee, the players will be accompanied by children in wheelchairs during the warm-up, there will also be a co-hall speaker from the inclusion team and the players will also wear the inclusion shirts during the warm-up.

This year, the main focus is on the topic of access in the areas of sport, stadium and work. Among other things, WERDER.DE will present the so-called “Easy Access” seats at the Weser stadium. The “Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Guideline” of the Green-Whites will also be published in the coming days.
