Working Together to Promote Physical Activity

Sportgarten E.V. and SV Werder Bremen are jointly committed to active and healthy growing up of children and young people.

In order to further strengthen structures for sustainable exercise programs in daycare centers, schools, clubs and on public playgrounds in Bremen and thus get even more children and young people moving in the state, SV Werder Bremen and Sportgarten e.V. will work together more closely in the future as part of the “Bremen bewegen” project.

Building on existing structures of the “Sportakademie” of Sportgarten e.V. and the SPIELRAUM concept of SV Werder Bremen, the project “Bremen bewegen” is intended to bundle the potentials of both concepts in the field of health promotion. By merging existing structures and target groups, the offers will be expanded and sustainable and longer-term networked movement landscapes will be established.

SV Werder Bremen is responsible for daycare centers and primary schools (1st and 2nd grade) as part of its activities and the SPIELRAUM concept. In addition, multipliers in daycare centers, schools, clubs and social agencies are to be empowered to independently implement low-threshold exercise offers for children and young people in the long term. Stakeholders from the district and associations are actively involved and sports facilities in the social area are used.

V. and the network of cooperation associations from the Sports Academy take over the offers at primary schools for 3rd/4th grades and at secondary schools in four model regions. Qualified specialists from clubs and the Sportgarten e.V. develop and carry out additional exercise offers for children and young people both at the schools and open offers in the afternoon area. The children and young people come into contact with stakeholders in the districts and discover opportunities and places for self-determined and self-organized movement. In addition, some children and adolescents are trained as movement coaches as part of the project with the aim of offering exercise breaks at their school for younger age groups.

The general need for exercise is huge – not only as a result of the Corona pandemic. Schools urgently need extracurricular partners in order to be able to cope with the upcoming tasks of a successful educational and physical activity biography for as many students as possible. The project “Moving Bremen” can and will make an important contribution to this.

“Moving Bremen” is to be particularly effective where there is a high demand for networking exercise offers and educational landscapes. Since these needs are to a large extent related to the social conditions and challenges of a location, social areas or areas resulting from “Social City Bremen” are particularly envisaged.

The project “Bremen bewegen” is funded over a project period of four years by the GKV-Bündnis Bremen E.V.

Since 2002, SV Werder Bremen has been actively involved in Bremen and the region to provide all children and young people with low-threshold access to sport. The focus is on promoting an intact sports and club landscape and building networks through partnerships with educational institutions and sports clubs. This approach has been further developed into a social space-oriented and cross-departmental sports idea of the club and leads to the SPIELRAUM concept. The concept is part of the SPORT VERNETZT initiative founded by ALBA Berlin.

V. coordinates and organises a network in Bremen in the cooperation school and club and has been committed to systematic cooperation between schools and youth welfare services for more than 10 years. So far, 130 groups at 26 schools have participated in the sports academy’s offerings every week. Since the beginning of its existence, the sports garden has involved children and young people in the design of living environments in the city. The results of youth participation from the very beginning are attractive sports and exercise spaces in the Pauliner Marsch, Überseestadt and in Post Office 5. The club is also networked nationwide with social initiatives in sports. The cooperation with schools and students has resulted in numerous events such as the Bremen Global Championship, the KAEGER TROPHY, the Night of Youth and the One Nation Cup.
