4th day Community Champions Youth Exchange

The 4th day of the Youth Exchange in Nijmegen, organised by ‘N.E.C. Doelbewust’, started with ‘sack racing’ on the parking lot at the Groene Heuvels (the Green Hills), where the youngsters are accommodated during their stay in Nijmegen. After the group energizer, the bus was already waiting for youngsters to bring them to the Airborne Museum in Oosterbeek, where they got a two hour guided tour through the unique museum that is all about the battle of Arnhem in 1944. From there the bus took the group to a war cemetery provide them with awareness on how many young adults died during the battle of Arnhem in the 2nd World War.

Afterwards, the entire youth exchange group went to the community house ‘Het-Hert’, a place where youngsters of Nijmegen can meet and play table tennis, PlayStation and table football, amongst other things. At ‘Het-Hert’ the group had a lunch together after which Everton took over the lead for the upcoming activity. The participants were divided into two group and had to describe their insights on what would be a good and a bad one.

Having done that, the group got the chance to take a walk or to play a small football game against some youngsters of Nijmegen, living in the neighbourhood.

Once returned to ‘Het Hert’  it was up to the participants of Everton to prepare a – hopefully – delicious three-course menu (scouse –beef stew), while the rest of the group had a group discussion about drugs and alcohol and enjoyed their free time, playing a bit of FIFA, Tennis Table or Pool. At around 6.00 pm, dinner was ready, and the youngsters in fact did indulge in the meal prepared by the Liverpudlians.

At the end of the day, the group was introduced to some classic Dutch fun games which they played until the bus arrived at 8.00pm to bring everybody back to the ‘Groene Heuvels’ where moest of the participants together watched the League Cup game between Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.
