FC St Pauli’s “Rascals” enjoy the summer holidays

The summer holidays are probably the best time of the year for most children. In July, too, there was a lot to experience for their “Rascals”.

After their “Rascals” had already been able to immerse themselves in a non-visual world, they started the holidays with a journey into the everyday life of deaf people. For this purpose, we visited the Dialoghaus Hamburg and their experiential exhibition “Dialogue in Silence” on Friday (8.7.). A guide led us through different challenges for non-verbal persons. In the process, they learned about the art and power of expressions through facial expressions and gestures. Afterwards the kids went to the pirate playground in the Hafencity, where they ended the afternoon in a cosy atmosphere.

The holiday programme continued with a culinary excursion aiming to promote healthy eating. On Thursday (14.7.), the “Rascals” went to the KinderKüche. They prepared a picnic together. There were muffins, bread and puff pastry sticks with homemade pesto – of course, everything was prepared by the kids. Together they went to the nearby Unna Park, where the cooked food was eaten.

Then the “Rascals” got active in football. At Swinggolf Hamburg, they had to complete 20 holes with as few shots as possible on their football golf course. In this hybrid sport, all kinds of obstacles had to be overcome, such as the Olympic rings, ditches or ramps. At the end, of course, the winners of the day were determined and rewarded with a signed autograph card from their favourite player.

The highlight of the month was a visit to the training session of the first team. On Wednesday (27.7.) they first gathered in large numbers at the Bullerberge playground in Planten un Blomen. After a nice, boisterous hour, the kids went to the training facility on Kollaustraße. At a distance of not even two metres, the “Rascals” could watch the professionals train. Of course, all the “Rascals” were able to collect lots of autographs after the training session was over. With these experiences the kids learned and practiced the importance of an active and healthy lifestyle as well as the inclusion of hearing impaired people.
