Fundação Benfica starts Welcome through Football delivery

Our member Fundação Benfica has started the project delivery of the Welcome through Football project in the field to support young refugees. The High Commissioner for Migration, Sónia Pereira and the Director of Fundação Benfica, Jorge Miranda, attended the first session at the Nuno Gonçalves school.

The Welcome through Football project is funded by the UEFA Foundation for Children and aims to foster the social inclusion and employability of young newly arrived immigrants and refugees. Seven EFDN clubs from six European countries deliver the programme until June 2022.

Building partnerships with local and public orgnanisations is one of the objectives throughout the programme delivery. The High-Commission for Migrants in Portugal believes in the power of sport as a tool for development and inclusion of refugees. Fundação Benfica is already organising a new group in the north of the country and considering the possibility of adding two more groups nationwide.
