Fundación Real Betis published documentary on fight against COVID-19

Fundación Real Betis have published ‘El Partido de Nuestras Vidas’ (The Game of Our Lives), which is a  documentary that shows all of the social actions carried out by the foundation, since the beginning of the health crisis.

The logistic centre for the reception, preparation and distribution of sanitary materials has closed its doors and the Benito Villamarín Stadium is already preparing for the return to normality.

To share all of the social work carried out since the beginning of the pandemic, the Real Betis Foundation has produced a documentary showing how the Club and its fans have been involved in the fight against the health, social and economic damages caused by COVID-19. This graphic document includes testimonies from many of the volunteers, players and recipients of the health materials.

Since the beginning of the initiative, Real Betis and its Foundation have distributed 27,540 protection masks, 5,909 masks, 2,796 sanitary gowns and 1,000 caps in 503 destinations, including hospitals, senior citizen centres, security forces and clinics. With this contribution, the green-white community wanted to do its bit to protect the people working on the front lines against COVID-19.

The logistics centre was staffed by 200 people from the ‘Mascaras Solidarias’ movement of 3D Printers, 70 volunteering employees from the Club, including players from Real Betis Féminas (women’s team), and 130 Betis fans who sewed the gowns, masks and caps from home with the materials that the foundation provided them with, using the club’s transport.

But the logistic centre has not been the only action that the Real Betis Foundation has carried out since the beginning of the pandemic. The Club also set up the campaign ‘Los Béticos van al Súper’, an online solidarity supermarket in which the Betis people could make donations to the food banks of Seville and to the Cáritas Diocesana to buy food, to be given to the vulnerable people of the city. 22,526 euros were collected in this action, thanks to the solidarity of the fans.

Also, together with the María Trifulca restaurant and the collaboration of the first male team, 400 lunches were distributed daily for 7 weeks to vulnerable families in Seville and the province.

In addition, the Foundation launched ‘El Betis más Cerca’. Through this initiative, 70 volunteers from the Club, including players from Real Betis and the different sports sections, checked up on season ticket holders over the age of 65 by phone. The disability department also carried out this action, focusing on its members who have some kind of disability.

More initiatives from Fundación Real Betis include:

  • A drawing competition
  • Video messages from several players, e.g captain Joaquin Sanchez who took part in the LaLiga Santander Fest, raising more than 1 million Euros
  • Fundraising and support for other campaigns and social organisations like the Red Cross
