Más Que Campeonas (More than Champions), the Inclusive Sport and Equality Campus in Seville, Comes to an End

This initiative, organised by the Junta de Andalucía, Fútbol Más España, FutboLISTAS, the Real Betis Foundation and with the support of CEAR, among other entities, has celebrated the Women’s Football World Cup, favouring 167 girls from the poorest neighbourhoods of the city.

Junta de Andalucía, together with Fútbol Más, the Real Betis Foundation, FutboLISTAS and with the collaboration of the Spanish Commission for Refugee Aid (CEAR) and the UEFA Foundation for Children, have closed this week Más que campeonas, the joint initiative that has been held over the last month to celebrate the Women’s World Cup with inclusive sport in equality.

The closing event was held at the San Antonio Drago Sports Centre, Torreblanca, and was attended by all the participating girls who were visited by María de Nova, Director General of Sports Systems and Values at the Andalusian Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport; Rafael Gordillo and Rafael Muela, president and manager of the Real Betis Foundation; María Valle, player of Real Betis Féminas; Natalia Bellido, social coordinator of Fútbol Más; Antonietta Pagliaro, coach of futboLISTAS; and coaches and social technicians of both Real Betis and Fútbol Más.

The project has ended, in addition to the proclamation of the Spanish National Team as World Cup winners, with the achievement of the main objective of Más que campeonas: to empower girls from vulnerable communities in Andalusia through games and sport.

167 girls have developed life and sports skills over the last month through social and sporting activities, generating positive links between girls from different communities. It has also helped to change the girls’ perspective on the traditionally masculine game, a vision that has been reinforced by the achievement of the World Cup by the football players who are the reference points for the girls who participated in this campus.

The camps were held in the Seville neighbourhoods of Torreblanca, Polígono Sur and Los Pajaritos and in the town of Mairena del Aljarafe. During this initiative, the girls were able to enjoy sporting activities and watch the World Cup matches from an educational perspective.

The girls were also able to enjoy visits and videos of professional players and coaches such as María Pry, Paula Romero, Nadia Nadim and Andrea Sánchez.

In addition to the weekly activities, Más que campeonas has held two events in coastal areas of Andalusia, Rota and Huelva, which for some of the participating girls was the first time they enjoyed the beach.
