Only winners at another highly successful Vitesse G-Trophy Day

Wednesday 21 September was another day many people had been looking forward to for a long time; for it was time again for the Vitesse G-Trophy. And it turned out to be for good reason. The football tournament for (young) adults with mental disabilities, which made a very successful comeback last year, was a resounding success again this season!

Welcome from Sturing

From 12.00 hours onwards, the top sports accommodation of Vitesse at Papendal filled up with participants and spectators, who were welcomed by Edward Sturing in a familiar way. The club icon, still working as head of the Vitesse Football Academy, took the microphone in his hand as he has done many times before to officially open the Vitesse G-Trophy and briefly run through the programme with all attendees.

“I only find smiling faces here, which is great to see.”

Edward Sturing, Club icon.

After the word of welcome, it was time for a collective, festive warm-up. After shaking off the legs and warming up the muscles, the ball could finally start rolling. Seventeen teams competed in a blistering pool phase for the coveted tickets to the finals.

Main role for Frederiksen

Before the final matches got underway at Papendal, which was as well-attended as it was atmospheric, the players and staff of Vitesse came to take a look at the G-Trophy. In a so-called signing session, they took ample time for autographs and photos with the participants of the football tournament.

Frederiksen was not only on his game on Wednesday afternoon during the closed practice match with Sparta Rotterdam (3-3), in which he managed to score a hat-trick within the space of ten minutes, but also made an appearance in the final matches of the G-Trophy. And if that was not enough, Frederiksen also took care of the award ceremony together with Sondre Tronstad.

First prize for TEC Tiel

In the end, thanks to a winning final battle against Team Trajectum, the first prize was won by TEC Tiel. But afterwards, everyone actually agreed: this wonderful day had only winners.
