Werder Bremen celebrates 100 days of SPIELRAUM

On 11 October 2021, SV Werder Bremen officially launched its SPIELRAUM concept. Now, 100 days later, it’s time to look back. Because a lot has happened in the past three months in the SPIELRÄUMEN in Bremen and the region.

Already at the beginning of November, three of the most important programmes were launched: In addition to the Community Champions League with 15 Bremen secondary schools from ten SPIELRÄUMEN Bremen, the primary school series in the SPIELRAUM Blumenthal also started with five primary schools from the social area in the north of Bremen. In “Kick für die Gesundheit” (Kick for Health), pupils from eleven primary schools from six SPIELRÄUMEN are taught in a playful way why healthy eating and physical exercise are important through sports games in the weekly ball schools.

FROM FOOTBALL FRIENDS CUP TO CHILD PROTECTION EDUCATION

There was also a lot of sporting action at two football days in the SPIELRÄUMEN Oldenburg & Heeslingen, which were organised by Werder’s scouting department, and at the “Football Friends Cup”. The inclusive tournament was held in cooperation with Special Olympics Bremen and the DFL Foundation and children & young people with disabilities from the SPIELRÄUMEN.

In the field of education, a child protection training course was organised together with the Bremen Football Association at the end of November. Freelance journalist Andrea Schültke spoke to around 50 participants about her many years of research into sexualised violence in sport. The WERDER Leistungszentrum also organised a SPIELRAUM advanced training for coaches at VfL Oldenburg.

Around Christmas, three fundraising campaigns provided strong financial support. A total of more than 55,000 euros was raised through the auction of the matchworn jerseys from the Hannover match, the Werder Christmas greeting from a total of 120 sponsoring partners and the charity stream from Werder’s eSPORT team. Among other things, the money will be used to finance two football pitches in Bremen Vegesack and Tenever, to finance further SPIELRAUM designers (trainers in the SPIELRÄUMEN) and to support the work of network partners (e.g. SOS Kinderdorf) of the SPIELRAUM concept.

ACTIVE NATIONWIDE AND PART OF SPORT NETWORKS

Within the framework of the long-standing strategic partnership with ALBA Berlin and the SPORT VERNETZT alliance initiated by ALBA, SV Werder Bremen has been acting as the first football club in a multiplier function since October. Werder passes on the SPORT VERNETZT idea in the form of the SPIELRAUM concept to interested locations in the federal states of Bremen and Lower Saxony. A full-time position was established for this purpose within the framework of the partnership.

SV Werder Bremen was also active on a supra-regional level. At the end of October, the Green-Whites presented the SPIELRAUM concept to other participating first and second division clubs at the kick-off network meeting of the initiative “Bundesliga bewegt” (Bundesliga moves), which was launched by the DFL Foundation, Sport-Club Freiburg e.V. and SV Werder Bremen.
