Wolves Foundation’s Power Hour 50+ launched

It’s time for Power Hour 50+ – inclusive aerobic sessions for ladies over the age of 50 delivered in a fun and informal way as part of Wolves Foundation’s Active Through Football project.

The newly set-up sessions are an extension of the existing Power Hour activity already in place at East Park but are aiming to answer demand from older ladies for their own activity, this time at Eastfield Community Centre.

Active Through Football, a five-year project funded by the Football Foundation, aims to get people of all ages and abilities enjoying different activities. The programme brings key local stakeholders together as a consortium to create and deliver a plan for their local area or ‘Place’. The plans will be based predominately on activating key settings through the delivery of recreational and informal small-sided football activity and developed through community engagement. The Power Hour 50+ sessions will be run on Wolves Foundation’s behalf by qualified instructor Amy Whitter.

Amy runs a fitness business and has already worked with the charity’s Healthy Goals project putting on sessions for mothers and children under the age of four at West Park.

“It is always great to link up with Wolves Foundation and to help offer opportunities for like-minded females in the community to come together in a fun and friendly environment to support each other in achieving their personal goals,”

“There is always a really warm welcome in a non-judgemental atmosphere and the people from the Community Centre have suggested that there is a demand for an inclusive Over-50s group which is really good news.”

“Sessions will improve both the mental and physical wellbeing of the participants but we also find that the groups create their own community spirit with the social interaction and I am sure this one will be no different.”

Denise Robins, from Eastfield Community Centre, is hopeful that Power Hour 50+ will be an extremely valuable addition to the activities that they offer.

“There are lot of activities put on for young people in the community which is obviously really important and always great to see them so well attended,”

“But we also have some of the older generation who come to the Centre who are keen to get involved and for ladies who would like to enjoy some exercise in a really fun and friendly session, this should offer the perfect opportunity.”

“We just want everyone to spread the message as much as possible so we can get these sessions well-attended and build up a really nice community feeling amongst the ladies that take part.”

Liam Turner, Active Through Football Project Officer, is also hopeful that Power Hour 50+ will prove popular.

“The beauty of Active Through Football is that there are so many different programmes and strands designed to make sure we can appeal to people of all ages and abilities across the city,”

“We are really looking forward to working with Amy and Denise and hopefully getting Power Hour 50+ up and running and proving popular in such a great facility as Eastfield Community Centre.”
