Ferencvaros Day of Care

Ferencváros asks all sports clubs to explore how they can offer help to their former, retired athletes. Ferencvárosi Torna Club and the Mező Ferenc Sports Committee – part of the Hungarian Olympic Committee – took the initiative in 2015 in the spirit of caring about traditions and honoring retired athletes to call all Hungarian sports clubs’ and foundations’ attention to their situation. Our club suggested announcing July 31st as the Day of Care.

– We wanted to cooperate with Ferencváros to help not only the Olympic athletes, but also the athletes of individual sports clubs. These clubs have athletes who brought glory to their club and set a role for the next generation – said the Olympic champion Dr. András Bodnár, chairman of the Sports Committee.

The chairman of the committee told us that there is much work to do. Thanks God that the Hungarian sports community has huge traditions and honors that makes the whole nation proud. Unfortunately though, it is not rare that after their retirement these athletes are left with poor living conditions, conditions that are far from what they would deserve.
This is exactly what the Mező Ferenc Sports Committee wants to do against. This initiative is supported by the Hungarian government that provides the necessary legal background for supporting retired athletes through the committee.

This July on the Day of Care, in the name of Ferencváros and The Hungarian Olympic Committee the committee asks all Hungarian sports clubs to raise their attention about the well-being of their athletes. They should not be let living with poor conditions, they should be supported as much as possible. However, care is not a question of money! Care is to give dignity to the sport families.

Our shared keywords for the Day of Care are: Attention – CARE – Dignity!
