Tottenham Foundation Increases Opportunities for Girls to Play Football

Last Wednesday (March 8th) marked the International Women’s Day and the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation has been working with the Premier League Charitable fund to increase opportunities for girls to play football – offering a range of mixed and girls-only programmes to help break down some of the barriers that prevent them accessing sport.

Hoddesdon Town Owls Girls and Ladies FC, a Charter Standard Club running nine different teams from Under-9s to Ladies, are currently benefitting from the offering. The Foundation supports Hoddesdon Town’s coaches by working alongside them to deliver sessions, while offering newcomers free training in the hope of recruiting more players.

Colin Ince, Chairperson of Hoddesdon Town Owls Ladies, said: “This is a great opportunity for our girls and coaches to learn from the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation. We have been very impressed with the standard of the sessions and progress has been brilliant. The partnership is helping us go from strength to strength.

Karen Hills, Girls and Women’s Development Officer at the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, said: “This project aims to improve girls’ opportunities to play football so it’s very important to us to be able to link up with some amazing grassroots clubs like Hoddesdon Town Owls. We are enjoying working with the girls and staff and hope that we can help them grow.

The Tottenham Hotspur Foundation provides after-school and community football sessions as part of the Premier League Girls project in eight different venues each week across North London, Hertfordshire and Essex.
