CAFE Week of Action 2020 (7-15 March 2020)

EFDN’s partner CAFE launches Week of Action to raise awareness on the subject of sports accessibility to people with disabilities.

Researches have shown that half of the disabled European population has never attended a live sports event. That means almost 50 million people who in all their life have missed out on the fun and excitement that going to the stadium can be. Of course, this does not mean that they wouldn’t have liked it. Unfortunately, though, there are still many barriers that prevent people with disabilities from enjoying live sports.

To raise awareness on the subject of accessibility in sports events, EFDN’s partner CAFE launched the CAFE Week of Action. The campaign, which will take place between the 7th and 15th of March 2020, is a unique opportunity for clubs, venues, federations, and supporters groups to celebrate the wider inclusion of disabled people and the important role they can play in both football and the wider society.

CAFE encourages disabled fans, clubs, stadiums, leagues, NGO and national associations to take part in the campaign by using the hashtag #TotalAccess. This can be a great opportunity to show the many different roles disabled people can play within the game and to demonstrate your commitment to a game that welcomes disabled people at all levels.

Some examples of the ways that you could get involved are:

  • Inviting more disabled people to attend a live match
  • Hosting pre-match or half time ceremonies, with a statement of support from the team captains
  • Players entering the field wearing CAFE Week of Action

Our Member Club Apollon FC showed their support for #TotalAccess at their most recent Match Day!

Also, our member club Rangers FC gave out 100 free tickets to disabled supporters to show the club’s support towards our partner CAFE and their 2020 Week of Action #TotalAccess.

Member club FC Red Bull Salzburg, showed how they too, support CAFE, in promoting access and inclusion for disabled people at live sporting events.
