FK Sarajevo tackles prejudice and revitalise women’s football

As SFK 2000 Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina’s leading women’s football club, is finishing this season with their 16th league trophy and 15th national cup, they shared their inspiring story from Bosnia and Herzegovina on the fruitful collaboration between them and FK Sarajevo. A partnership that has positively impacted Bosnian women’s football in general.

In the previous years, FK Sarajevo has worked on several projects that were important for the social community. This sports collective, followed by a large army of fans, has successfully delivered a wide variety of activities that promoted a healthy lifestyle through sports activities, education for children, free training sessions, purchasing equipment for children with special needs, and fan engagement programmes such as the voluntary blood donation campaign – ”Give Blood to the Maroon Colour”.

One of the clubs flagship programme is the cooperation with the women’s football club SFK 2000 Sarajevo.

Logistic support

Like in many other countries, women’s football in Bosnia and Herzegovina, it is still not organised in the same level as the men’s game. For this reason, it is a huge struggle to survive and to be the best club in the country for the past 18 years.

Despite being the best women’s’ football team in Bosnia and Herzegovina for years, SFK 2000 Sarajevo barely had any resources and a lack of local support, until they became part of the FK Sarajevo family. FK Sarajevo shared the club’s venues for organising the teams home matches and field training of the women’s team and provided additional support for transport to away games, administrative support, and support with all promotional marketing activities.

SFK 2000 Sarajevo - FK Sarajevo

So far, SFK 2000 Sarajevo has won 16 consecutive championships, 15 trophies of the National Cup of BiH, with numerous excellent performances on the international scene, and their future and stable business have been secured through cooperation with FK Sarajevo.

By adopting the identity of the Club, SFK 2000 Sarajevo is now followed by the army of maroon fans and through the partnership with FK Sarajevo, they have completed new sponsorship deals in the past few weeks.

Gender equality

FK Sarajevo sends a strong message and says NO to all kinds of gender discrimination in football and promotes the men’s and women’s football team equally. Thanks to the cooperation between FK Sarajevo and SFK 2000 Sarajevo, the interest from young girls to play football in the city of Sarajevo is rising quickly.

Every day, an increasing number of girls are playing football while wearing colours of the club. In cooperation with other departments of FK Sarajevo, SFK 2000 Sarajevo is now able to guide young girls to an even higher quality way of life and education and have become leaders in the development and promotion of women’s football in Bosnia.
