Shakhtar Players visited the Shelter Centre in Lviv

Shakhtar players talked to the guests at the Shelter Centre and trained with the children from Come on, Play! On the third of September, players Anatoliy Trubin and Artem Bondarenko, representing Shakhtar, visited Shakhtar’s Shelter Centre at Arena Lviv. Here, for the past five months, people from different regions of Ukraine who have been affected by the war find temporary shelter. The footballers talked to the displaced people, supported them, and arranged a small photo shoot, not refusing to take a picture of anyone who wished to.

“We came to people who lost their homes because of the war, were left without everything, and Shakhtar is organising such a temporary shelter for them. This is a very good idea, and I am glad that our club helps these people. There are all the necessary conditions for temporary stay: a lot of beds, good food, medicines, even a doctor. It is especially nice that all the people communicate very well – it makes them more cohesive.”

Also, Artem Bondarenko and Anatoliy Trubin also took part in one of the “Come on, Play!” training sessions, which are also held at Arena Lviv. Thanks to the efforts of the project partners, IDP children and local children can practice their favourite sport – football – even in such difficult times for free. Children at this location are coached by the ex-goalkeeper of Shakhtar Artem Tetenko. It was under his guidance that the first-team players actively engaged in the training. At the end of the training session, Trubin and Bondarenko awarded the boys with gifts, signed autographs and took photos.

“We met with the children who were forced to leave their hometowns and now live here. We played football with them, hopefully we gave them some positive emotions, took pictures with them and their parents. I think everyone got a little relief. I believe that Shakhtar’s Shelter Centre is very important, because it helps people who find themselves in a difficult situation. This support is very important for them.”

Recall that Shakhtar Shelter Centre at Arena Lviv opened on 9 April this year and since then it has hosted more than a thousand migrants from different regions of Ukraine. More than 200 people live here permanently.
