Maccabi Netanya FC

Five times Israelian champions Maccabi Netanya FC forged a new patch six years ago with the arrival of a new club owner. Since then, the club adopted the slogan ‘Building something new, Together’, to show that the club and its community are one entity, building the future together with its fans.

Maccabi Netanya, founded in 1934, has a long history in national football. After the creation of Israel in 1948, the club was part of the thirteen founding members of the football league. They had their best spell in the Seventies, becoming national ‘Double’ winners in 1978. The diamond in the club logo as well as their nickname the “diamonds” dates back to the large diamonds industry in the early 1940s in the city of Netanya, At that time, 33 factories started to work in Israel, mostly in Netanya and Tel-Aviv, and Netanya was nicknamed “Diamonds City”.

The club joined EFDN in order to be part of global CSR programs and to show its own activities to the network. We highlight here two of their projects:

Equal in sports – The main idea of this program is that every person with a disability (any) will be able to participate in a sports activity next to where this person lives. The club has an “equal in sports” team which contains people with disability together with the club’s fans, to make one united team. The club is providing the team training field, all the relevant equipment, a dedicated coach and buses to tournaments across the country. The 1st team players come once a month to participate in the “equal in sports” training session.

Bet Elazarki Children’s home – Bet Elazarki’s children’s home serves over 200 at-risk children of all ages. Many of the children were born into second, and even third, generations of distress, and were brought to us by welfare authorities nationwide. Children referred to Bet Elazarki were removed from life-threatening dangers and dysfunctional family environments. The club’s youth team, together with their head coach train 30 kids from Bet Elazarki twice a month. On holidays, club members, including 1st team players arrive to Bet Elazarki to give gifts to the kids and let them feel loved.
