N.E.C. Nijmegen

NEC Maatschappelijk

N.E.C. was founded by labourers in 1900. The Goffert Stadium has existed since the late thirties, after having established the whole park as an employment project of the Municipality of Nijmegen and the Ministry of Social Affairs.

In 2000, the current stadium was built inside the old stadium. As a consequence, the number of seats was more appropriate to N.E.C. (from 12,500 to 30,000) and gave the club better business opportunities.

Considering its history, N.E.C. felt the need to set up a foundation to give something back to society and get rooted even more in Nijmegen and the surrounding area. The ambition of N.E.C. is to use the stadium more as a hub for social movement. The inhabitants of the whole area, fan or not, should come to the Goffert Stadium to develop themselves.

In 2008 N.E.C. founded ‘Stichting N.E.C.  Doelbewust’, a foundation to give something back to community . Through this foundation the club initiates, in collaboration with partners, projects that benefit the city and region, establishing N.E.C. in society.

Experience shows that it really works to make use of the power of N.E.C. to encourage people to develop. Whether it is about vitality, mentality or education, the power of N.E.C. always works. Therefore, we focus on these three pillars when it comes to social commitment. All activities take place in collaboration with partners on knowledge of the subject.

The projects and programs that are running are mostly for kids and youth and are taking place in the field of participation of minorities, health and wellbeeing, awareness on discrimination, social-emotional development, sports for disabled, unemployment training and respect.

N.E.C. Doelbewust Foundation, nowadays called N.E.C. Maatschappelijk, collaborate with both profit and non-profit organisations to make a difference in the life of our fans and inhabitants of Nijmegen and the region of Nijmegen.

For us as a club it is important to always make a difference. Doing things once is not really effective. We believe in programs and projects in collaboration with partners who have knowledge and expertise about the item we are working on. Using the power of the brand N.E.C. is a benefit for the partner, but of course also for the participant.

A good example of a great collaboration is our health project ‘Scoren voor Gezondheid’ (Scoring for health). We offer primary schools a 6 month program together with health care organisation GGD The goal is to get welfare and health on the agenda. By setting goals, making children aware and offering good, fun and useful lessons, we achieve our goals in the class. The health care organisation GGD meanwhile talks to staff and board in order to make a (part of) health policy. We are proud of this collaboration because together we really make a lasting difference.
