Memory Well – Motherwell FC
Memory Well is a reminiscence project funded by the Bank of Scotland Foundation.
The grant enables the Trust to provide weekly reminiscence therapy sessions to 400 dementia sufferers. The project develops memory books of pictures for participants in the project and delivers dementia awareness sessions in local schools.
Reminiscence sessions are held in various locations, including care homes, sheltered housing complexes, libraries and community centres, as well as Fir Park Stadium, home of Motherwell Football Club. The sessions cover the core themes of film and TV, sport, art, music, as well as other themes to ensure that the project delivers activities of interest to the participants.
The Memory Well also provides respite periods for carers and has established a buddy system, where students in local secondary schools help participants create a memory book of their most cherished photographs and memories.
Philip Grant, Chair of the Scottish Executive Committee, Lloyds Banking Group and Chair of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees said, “We are delighted that Motherwell Football Community Trust has been able to benefit from the first tranche of our 2016 Small and Medium sized grants, along with 29 other Scottish charities. As the population in Scotland continues to get older, dementia is something that more of us will be affected by, either directly or through someone close to us.
