Burnley FC – Schools’ Healthy Eating

The Schools’ Healthy Eating Project is aimed at Year 5 children and is focused on educating them with regards to the healthy choices that they can make. The Schools’ Healthy Eating Project runs over six weeks and covers the following topics:

  1. The Food Groups
  2. Sugar
  3. The Importance of Breakfast
  4. Hydration
  5. Healthy Food Swaps
  6. The Right Choices

The project is a combination of classroom-based learning followed by a physical activity session, with the aim being to teach children the importance of making healthy choices paired with the importance of physical activity. The children learn by means of presentations, quizzes and practical activities.

Results gathered post-completion of the project showed that the children came away with an increased understanding and knowledge of healthy eating. For example, in a school group on week one of the project only 42% of the children could correctly answer that you should drink 6-8 glasses of water per day. After completion of the project this increased to 94% – a huge improvement of 52%.
