FC EMMEN OLDSTARS

The ‘FC Emmen Oldstars’ is a walking football programme which targets elderly people so that they can maintain an active lifestyle. Naoberschap United, the foundation of FC Emmen, organises sessions every week that are adapted to the physical conditions of the ”Old Stars” and contributes to stimulating a healthier lifestyle of the participants.

The FC Emmen Oldstars are the official team of the Naoberschap United foundation and is for 60 years olds or older, stimulating them to play football (again), get into contact with one another and be involved with FC Emmen.

Running is not allowed in walking football to help minimise injuries and gives more people the opportunity to join in. The game is played with six versus six, with no goalkeepers. Furthermore, sliding tackles are not allowed, nor is physical contact.

Every Thursday afternoon the OldStars players have a training session in FC Emmen’s De Oude Meerdijk stadium. It’s also not just about football, with the main focus on the social aspect, with the sessions involving a pre-match cup of coffee and post-match drink. The programme has so far seen 20 FC Emmen OldStars show their talent every week.
