Wigan Athletic Community Trust: The Supporters Project

One of the successful CSR projects of the Wigan Athletic Community Trust is The Supporters Project in which funds raised by the Wigan Athletic Supporters Club during the Club’s period in administration were used to launch this programme in October 2021. The project aims to:

  • Support people over the age of 55 and reduce social isolation
  • Raise the aspirations of young people in secondary schools in the wake of the COVID 19
  • Provide financial support to grassfoots junior football clubs in the Wigan area.

The projects provide a number of weekly activities for seniors over 55 designed to help them to stay connected to the rest of the community ranging from fitness classes, social events, health walks to online events such as bingo and quiz nights.

While in secondary schools, it provides work experience opportunities for students in years 9 and 10 to help prepare them for the world of work and open their eyes to career opportunities available to them within a range of business sectors including professional football through Wigan Athletic FC.
